A recent viral video has sparked widespread discussion after Los Angeles-based influencer Alyssa Antoci purchased a single strawberry for $19 (approximately ₹1,655) from Erewhon, a luxury grocery store known for its high-end products. The strawberry, imported from Kyoto, Japan, and sold under the brand Elly Amai, is marketed as the "best-tasting strawberry in the entire world." In her TikTok video, which has garnered over 13 million views, Antoci described the fruit as "the best strawberry I've ever had in my life."
The extravagant purchase has elicited mixed reactions online. Some viewers criticized the high price, with comments highlighting the perceived excessiveness of spending such an amount on a single piece of fruit. Others questioned the marketing claims, noting that Kyoto is not traditionally known for strawberry cultivation.
Erewhon, frequented by celebrities like the Kardashians and Justin Bieber, has previously made headlines for its expensive offerings, including a bag of eight large frozen ice spheres priced at $32.
