Following his denial of a pay increase, a shopping mall employee went on a frenzy in the electronic section of a Baitul, Madhya Pradesh, store. Kamal Pawar, the employee, seriously damaged the stock of the mall by damaging 71 refrigerators and 11 televisions, therefore causing a large loss of almost ₹18 lakhs.

CCTV footage of the whole incident caught Pawar's damaging behaviour rather precisely. Reports state that the problems started when Pawar asked his company for a pay rise before Diwali, but his demand was turned down. Angry and let down, Pawar apparently missed three days from work. On his way back to the mall, though, he let his irritation explode violently.

Pawar first went for the TV area, breaking the screens of eleven TVs so they were worthless. He next went on to the department on refrigerators, where he similarly demolished 71 of them. The damage was significant, and the electronics were left in such condition that could not be sold or fixed.

Acting fast, the mall management reported the event to the authorities by means of a police complaint. Kamal Pawar was taken into custody and allegedly said during interrogation that his mental health problems had been causing him to act out-of-control. Pawar was given bail despite his justification; the police are still looking into the occurrence.

This sad incident underlines the need of keeping a clean workplace as well as the possible results of unresolved workplace problems. While the administration of the mall has been left coping with the financial loss, consumers have been astounded by the scope of harm one person's activities have created.

The episode reminds us of how unbridled emotions can occasionally have disastrous results even while it begs issues regarding workplace relations and the handling of employee complaints. To prevent such events in the future, the management of the mall is probably going to review its internal communication protocols and staff rules.

The authorities are still looking at the whole extent of what caused this violent outburst and make sure such events never resurfaced.
